Altar of the Fatherland

It took a bit of digging to figure out what this was since I didn’t really know where to start.  If I have my information correct, this is the Altar of the Fatherland in Piazza Venezia.

I had no idea what it was when I took the picture.  I had arrived in Rome in the afternoon and once I found the hostel I just started wandering around into the evening…  Either it’s perfectly safe to wander haphazardly around Rome at night or I was just unaware that it wasn’t.

Picture taken with Olympus C2040z, lens @ 9.5mm (53.5mm equiv), f/2.0, 1/5 sec, ISO 100
