Foggy over the Grand River today.

Artprize 2013 shot of the Grand River from downtown Grand Rapids – if you look close you can see the monkey sculptures hanging on the blue bridge. This one is not multiple shots, though I adjusted the tone curves enough that it is probably considered HDR.

This was taken during Artprize 2012 – though it has nothing to do with Artprize, it was just a time when we were downtown in the late afternoon where the light was good for this shot. Picture is looking North up the Grand River. I can’t decide if I like the cloud reflections in the building or think they’re just distracting.

This was from Artprize 2011. I generally like the large metal sculpture entries – the seem to fall somewhere in the middle of the spectrum ranging from a plethora of craft-prize entries to the upper end of insanely detailed 30′ wide pencil drawings that have been in the works for four years. As in, there’s enough talent there for me to appreciate with a simple enough appeal that I don’t have to have an art history degree or magnifying glass to notice. This one is a little simpler than most entries in that subset, but it seemed to go well with the background.
The picture shown is the composite of three exposures so all the colors are a bit hopped up at the expense of some detail.
